I use this setting to capture the live tone off of LIVE RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW. By turning the Mids up to 3 and Highs up to 7, you can get the live tone that was used during the balance tour. (Bright On, Crunch Off). This setting is from: Darryl Ritter ritterd@thot.net http://www.geocities.com/ritter_d_2000/

Gear Used: Gibson SG with JB in bridge and 59 in neck position.
Sound Description: If you want a straight-up lead sound with low-end crunch, dynamics and plenty of harmonics, try this setting. It really cuts through without losing note definition or sounding harsh. It really sounds good at high volumes.

Gear Used: Kramer Baretta, Dod Stereo Phaser, Aria Flanger, Ibanez Soundtank Echomachine, Alesis Microverb Reverb.
Sound Description: This sound is as close as I can get to the Van Halen I sound with the equipment I have. It is fat and juicy with a very similar top end response. No doubt it would sound better if I could afford an MXR phaser and flanger. The soundtank delay is raw sounding, and gives a good 70's tape delay type sound (a bit like Ed's echoplex) only cheap! (This is for bedroom levels - as you increase the post gain, decrease the presence to compensate for added top end). F/X loop: Flanger, slow, not too much depth, set for midrangey sweep. Only used to accentuate certain phrases. Echo set for slapback, not too loud (used on most solos, all of Jamie's Cryin', Atomic Punks, etc.) Reverb mid-length decay, not too loud. If you are recording, add it afterwards for stereo reverb. (obviously with guitar panned left) Guitars with different pickups (the Kramer has relatively powerful humbuckers) will obviously need different gain and treble settings. Back off guitar volume for cleaner sounds.

Note: Crunch - ON Bright - ON
Gear Used: Peavey 5150 Head, Peavey 412MS Slant Cab, Fender Mex Stratocaster w/ Seymour Duncan Hot Rail (bridge only)
Sound Description:
The Tone produced here is very warm. The Duncan hotrail has TONS of mids, so the mids on the amp aren't jacked, but they are up high to compensate for the  highs being scooped. With the highs down to 3/4, the ear piercing high end isn't bad at all. Its very smooth. I Use the Presence as a treble blend. That's it. With some cabs, and the mids jacked up, the presence can also double up as a high mid boost, but remember, Presence is mainly high end. Again, the Resonance is also being used as a low end blend. I do like to move air without blowing speakers...7 and 7 on my head agrees with the Cab nicely, and when turned up to about 6, will move your hair. Its a great warm sound. I found it similar to the tone off EXTREME III that Nuno was using. Very warm, but when the squeals come in, they still have enough bite to come through. Running a Delay and Chorus through my FX Loop makes a really and I mean really huge tone! Nice and FAT!! My Clean Channel isn't totally clean. I'm using the crunch to hold the fat tone in my clean sound, so its not wanky. Mind you, I love shimmering cleans, however, at the Bar I play at every week, sparkling cleans sounds like shit...a little bit of beef to fatten it up. You can also just turn the Rhythm Pre up to 5 or 6 and probably still get the same sound... But, I cheated and used the crunch.  For the Combo Users, Add all the 'verb you like.
